The AlaskaAdvantage Education Grant supports students enrolled in:
Undergraduate degree programs (Associate and Bachelor’s level)
Vocational and technical certificate programs
Career and workforce training programs
Note: Students cannot have previously earned a bachelor’s degree.
Eligibility
To qualify for the AEG, applicants must:
1. Residency Requirements
Be an Alaska resident for at least 365 days before FAFSA filing.
2. Citizenship Status
Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
3. Education Requirements
Hold a high school diploma or GED.
Be admitted into an undergraduate degree or vocational certificate program.
Not have earned a bachelor’s degree previously.
4. Enrollment Requirements
Enroll at minimum half-time status at a qualifying Alaska institution.
5. FAFSA Requirement
Submit the FAFSA for the upcoming academic year.
Select at least one qualifying Alaska institution on the FAFSA.
6. Academic Standards
Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) set by the institution.

The AEG does not limit awards to specific academic fields. Students may apply if they are pursuing any undergraduate or vocational subject, including:

Maritime studies
And more
As long as the program is offered by a qualifying Alaska institution, it is eligible.

Application Procedure
Follow these steps to apply for the AlaskaAdvantage Education Grant:
Step 1: Complete the FAFSA
Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid as early as possible.
Include at least one qualifying Alaska college or vocational school.
Step 2: Wait for Eligibility Review
ACPE reviews FAFSA submissions to identify financially eligible students.
Step 3: Receive the AEG Intent Form
If you qualify, you will receive an AEG Intent Form via email during summer.
Step 4: Submit the Intent Form
Complete and return the form by the specified deadline.
Missing the deadline forfeits your award.
Step 5: Enrollment Verification
Ensure you enroll half-time or more at the selected institution.
Step 6: Award Disbursement
Funds are sent directly to the institution to reduce tuition costs.

Is the AlaskaAdvantage Education Grant renewable each year? Yes. Students must submit a new FAFSA each year and continue meeting eligibility requirements to be considered for renewal.
