Early-career scientists with a PhD degree and a strong interdisciplinary interest
Researchers aiming to conduct innovative projects across two disciplines

Eligibility criteria:

Must have a PhD at the time of recruitment (within 8 months of the deadline)
Ideally have some postdoctoral experience or demonstrated interdisciplinary work
International applicants welcome
Cannot have been employed at ISTA prior to June 13, 2024
Fellowship must commence within 6 months of selection

Application Procedure

Prepare a cross-discipline project proposal co-supervised by two group leaders from different fields.
Submit your application via the official NOMIS-ISTA portal before September 18, 2025 .
Top candidates will be invited for a remote interview about 8–10 weeks after the deadline.

1. Is the NOMIS-ISTA Fellowship open to international applicants?
Yes, the fellowship welcomes applications from all nationalities across all research fields supported at ISTA.
2. Do I need to have postdoctoral experience to apply?
Not necessarily. While postdoctoral or interdisciplinary experience is preferred, exceptional candidates without postdoc experience are also considered.
3. Can I propose an external co-supervisor if ISTA doesn’t cover my research area?
Yes. If ISTA lacks the required expertise, an external secondary supervisor may be proposed, including a secondment of up to 3 months per fellowship year.
