Fund biological and clinical research into pediatric cancers

Promote advancements in precision medicine

Improve supportive care, quality of life, and long-term survivorship outcomes

Encourage innovation in areas such as adolescent and young adult cancers, pediatric cancer predispositions, and complementary therapies

Eligibility

Applicants must:

Hold an M.D. or D.O. degree by the fellowship start date
Be in their 2nd or 3rd year of a pediatric oncology fellowship by July 1, 2026
Note : Research residency format (2 years of residency + 4 years of fellowship) may also qualify
Not hold the rank of assistant professor or above
Be employed by an academic or nonprofit research institution
Have a fellowship mentor at an American Board of Pediatrics–approved Pediatric Hematology/Oncology program
Have no prior Commonwealth Professional Fellowship in the past five years
A co-mentor is allowed, and the foundation encourages collaborative mentoring arrangements.

Funding Details

Amount : Up to $97,500/year for two years ($195,000 total)
Use of Funds : Salary and benefits only
Potential 3rd Year : Contingent on progress and funding needs

Eligible Nationalities

Open to applicants of all nationalities.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

Hold an M.D. or D.O. degree by the fellowship start date
Be in their 2nd or 3rd year of a pediatric oncology fellowship by July 1, 2026

Boston University Internal Submission Process

Due to the limited submission policy , Boston University may submit only one primary application , with the option for a second if the research focuses on:

Brain tumors , including rare forms like:

Atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT)
Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG)/Diffuse midline glioma (DMG)
Glioblastoma (GBM)
Burkitt lymphoma (all types)
Extrarenal rhabdoid tumors

Bu Internal Application Requirements

Interested applicants from Boston University must submit the following via InfoReady Review by May 30, 2025 :

Short responses to internal review questions
A 2-page project summary outlining research aims, rationale, and methodology
Up-to-date NIH-format biosketch for both the applicant and mentor

Internal BU Deadline : May 30, 2025 (11:59 PM ET)
BU Nominee Notification : June 9, 2025
Letter of Intent (LOI) Deadline : July 8, 2025 (5:00 PM ET)
BU’s Office of Foundation Relations will support selected applicants in preparing the LOI and final submission to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
