Research Areas SALIS is a multilingual, research-focused school specializing in diverse disciplines. We are particularly interested in research proposals in the following areas: 1. Language Learning and Linguistics Applied Linguistics Virtual Exchanges Multimodal and Creative Language Learning Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL), Social Media, AI Integration Sociolinguistics and Plurilingual Pedagogies 2. Citizenship Studies Global Citizenship and Social Justice Intercultural Dynamics Multilingualism and Society Post-Conflict Politics and Legacies of Violence 3. Literary and Visual Studies Transnational Cultural Expression Migration and Biographical Testimonies Urban Studies and Intermediality Responses to War and Trauma 4. Gender and Sexuality Studies Cultural, Literary, and Visual Perspectives Sexual Literacy and Gender Identities Sexual Cultures 5. Translation Studies Translation Ethics in European and Non-European Contexts Corpus-Based and Crisis Translation Machine Translation and AI in Humanitarian, Economic, and Literary Applications 6. Migration Studies Refugee Studies and Intercultural Communication Policy and Anthropology of Displacement Returned Emigrants

Benefits

These scholarships include a €25,000 annual stipend for up to four years, along with full coverage of registration fees.

Application Procedure

Candidates must submit their applications via the DCU Application Portal and email their complete application as a single PDF file to salis.office@dcu.ie with the subject line SALIS PhD Scholarships 2025 before 17:00 (Irish Time) on March 18, 2025.
Completed Application Form (available for download from the official DCU website )
Undergraduate and Postgraduate Transcripts (where applicable)
Two Letters of Reference from academic supervisors or lecturers

Applications will be deemed ineligible if they:

Are missing required documents (including application form, transcripts, or references)
Are not submitted as a single PDF file
Are received after 17:00 (Irish Time) on March 18, 2025
Contain plagiarism, false, misleading, or unverifiable information
Are generated with the help of AI tools
Are not endorsed by a SALIS faculty member
Show evidence of canvassing on behalf of applicants
Assessment: Senior academics from SALIS and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences will review applications.
Shortlisting: Candidates will be notified within three weeks of the deadline if they have been shortlisted.
Interviews: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews in April 2025.
Final Decision: Applicants will be informed of final selections shortly after the interview process.
