Nanoelectronics
Key Research Areas PhD projects at LANES span a diverse range of topics: Quantum Transport: Investigating the behavior of electrons in 2D semiconductor devices under quantum mechanical regimes. Optics and Optoelectronics: Studying the interaction between photons and 2D materials for potential applications in photodetectors and light-emitting devices. Synthesis of 2D Materials: Developing new methods to grow and integrate high-quality 2D materials for device applications. Field-Effect Devices: Designing and fabricating transistors and related structures to test the electronic properties of novel materials. Nanomechanical Systems: Exploring the mechanical behavior of 2D materials for use in sensors and actuators.
Benefits
Advanced Facilities for High-Impact Research Research at LANES leverages EPFL’s advanced facilities, including a class 100 cleanroom that enables precise nanofabrication and device engineering. The group’s projects involve various state-of-the-art techniques: Electrical Transport Measurements: To understand the electronic behavior of materials at the nanoscale. Optical Characterization: To probe light-matter interactions in 2D materials and optoelectronic devices. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Related Techniques: For detailed surface and material analyses. PhD students will gain hands-on experience with these techniques and contribute to a supportive, innovative research environment aimed at fostering discoveries with significant real-world potential.
