Eligibility
Invitation Requirements A formal letter of invitation from each proposed host institution is mandatory. This letter should confirm the applicant's proposed project timeline. The project statement must provide a detailed overview of the proposed activities (research, teaching and research, or professional project), including: Duration and dates in each country Justification for selecting each country Host institutions and specific sites to be visited (when applicable) Language Proficiency While English is sufficient, applicants must demonstrate the feasibility of conducting their project in the project statement. Teaching: Confirm the language of instruction with each host institution. Research: Sufficient language proficiency to complete the research is required. For applicants without local language skills, the project statement and language self-evaluation form must clearly outline how the research will be conducted. Applicants with some language proficiency must register an external evaluator. Qualifications A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree (e.g., MBA, MFA) is preferred but not required. Candidates with substantial professional or artistic experience and recognized accomplishments are strongly encouraged to apply.

Benefits
Award Allowances Monthly Stipends: Grantees will receive a monthly stipend aligned with Core Fulbright U.S. Scholar rates for the designated country, with a minimum of $3,500. Exact figures can be found under the "Award Benefits" tab on each award page. Dependent Benefits: Dependent benefits are not included in the Fulbright Global Scholar Award. Final Award Amounts: Grant amounts will be determined before the 2025-26 academic year and are contingent upon congressional funding. The U.S. Department of State retains the right to modify participating countries, award numbers, and allowances without prior notice. Additional Allowances Travel and Relocation: Grantees will receive round-trip economy airfare for each country visit, arranged by IIE. A $500 relocation allowance is provided per country visit. Book and Research: A $750 book and research allowance is offered for each country visit to support teaching and research materials. Purchased books should be donated to the host institution upon grant completion.

Citizenship and Residency Requirements
Citizenship: Applicants must be U.S. citizens at the time of application.
Residency: Individuals who have resided outside the United States for a cumulative total of five or more years within the six years prior to the application deadline are ineligible. A period of nine months or more within a calendar year is considered a full year.
