PhD studies – at a well-ranked host university abroad (any country), grants of up to USD 50,000 per year

Post-doctoral research – grants of up to USD 40,000 per year

Master's degree studies are not funded by this program.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a Faculty for the Future Fellowship 2027–2028, an applicant must:

Be a woman and a citizen of a developing or emerging country (no dual citizenship with a developed country)

Be preparing for a PhD or post-doctoral research in a STEM discipline – master's degrees are not funded

Be enrolled in, admitted to, or have applied to a well-ranked host university/research institute abroad

Hold an excellent academic record and be able to provide strong references

Have proven teaching experience or a demonstrated interest in teaching and academia

Be committed to returning to her home country to pursue an academic or research career, STEM entrepreneurship, or a policy-making role

Demonstrate leadership skills, community outreach and a track record of encouraging girls and women into STEM

Employees of Schlumberger (SLB) are not eligible. Applicants must be able to attend the university's regular sessions and there are no restrictions on the host country.

Available Subjects

The fellowship supports research in all STEM disciplines, with a stated priority for fields where women are most underrepresented:

Physical Sciences – physics, chemistry, materials science, earth and environmental science

Engineering – electrical, mechanical, chemical, civil, petroleum, aerospace and related fields

Computer Science, data science and artificial intelligence

Mathematics and statistics

Biological and life sciences (also eligible, lower priority)

Research topics that are relevant to the needs of the applicant's home country are viewed favourably.

Benefits

Faculty for the Future grants are based on actual costs and are awarded for one year at a time, renewable annually until the end of the degree on evidence of satisfactory progress:

PhD: up to USD 50,000 per year

Post-doctoral research: up to USD 40,000 per year

Covers university tuition and bench fees, accommodation, a living allowance, travel, visa charges and conference expenses

An exceptional childcare grant may be awarded per eligible child when conditions are met

Membership of the Faculty for the Future global alumnae network, with access to additional grants after selection

Eligible Nationalities

Open to women who are citizens of developing or emerging (low- and middle-income) countries , particularly countries where women are underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Applicants must not hold dual citizenship with a developed country. Study can take place at a host university in any country abroad, including the USA, UK, Canada, Australia and Europe.
