Eligibility

To be eligible for this prestigious Harvard-affiliated postdoctoral fellowship in India , applicants must:

Have completed a PhD between March 1, 2020, and March 31, 2025
Be early-career scholars (postdoctoral level)
Preferably have been educated primarily at institutions in India
Not be holding any other fellowship concurrently

Available Subjects

The Mittal Institute India Fellowship 2026 is designed to support innovative postdoctoral research that contributes to the public benefit of India . Research topics may span a wide range of disciplines, including:

Public Health and Climate Change
Education and Gender Studies
Political Science, Sociology, and Anthropology
Law, Philosophy, and Linguistics
Science, Medicine, History, and Visual Arts
Fellows are expected to reside in New Delhi and actively engage with the Mittal Institute’s activities—such as hosting seminars, reviewing grants, and collaborating with Harvard-affiliated researchers in India.

Benefits

Monthly Stipend : INR 1,00,000 (gross)

Reimbursement of round-trip travel for candidates from outside Delhi

Eligibility Criteria

Research Proposal (2–3 pages)
Title and abstract
Research questions
Methodology
Proposed outcome
Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Academic qualifications
Research experience
Publications and grants
Writing Sample (max 10 pages)
Dissertation chapter or published article
PhD Degree Certificate (scan)
Two Letters of Recommendation
At least one from an academic referee
Letters to be uploaded to ARIeS or emailed if necessary

Selection And Mentorship

Selected fellows will be remotely mentored by Harvard faculty and their research will be disseminated widely in India for public benefit . Applicants are encouraged to suggest 2–3 Harvard faculty members suitable to mentor their project.
