Eligibility

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Strong background in metallurgy, slip/twinning mechanisms, and mechanical behavior of metals.
Experience with Mg alloys, micro-compression, or SEM-based techniques is an advantage.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.

Degree Level

Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon Germany PhD Scholarship 2025 (Fully Funded) is available to undertake PhD level programs at Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon.

Research Focus

Key Areas:

Investigating atomic-scale mechanisms affecting strength and ductility of Mg-rare earth (RE) alloys.
Utilizing advanced microstructural characterization techniques including EBSD, EDX, SAXS, and TEM.
Conducting ex situ and in situ nanoindentation tests (micro-tensile/compression).
Contributing to the development of digital twins and new RE-free Mg alloy systems.
This research will impact applications in lightweight materials, hydrogen storage, and advanced manufacturing.
