1. English-Medium Instruction
Since 2008, KAIST has conducted almost all courses in English, making it an ideal environment for international students without language barriers. KAIST does not require TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) scores for admission, ensuring a smooth transition for non-Korean speakers.
2. Non-Declared Major System
KAIST offers flexibility in academics by following a non-declared major system. Students can enroll without selecting a major upfront and choose their field of study starting from their second year. This system allows students to explore multiple disciplines before deciding.

Note: International students enrolled at other universities are eligible to apply. However, admitted students must withdraw from their current institutions as KAIST prohibits dual enrollment.
English Proficiency & Standardized Tests
Submitting English proficiency scores (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS) or standardized test results (e.g., SAT, AP) is recommended but not mandatory. Applicants without these scores will not be disadvantaged.
Document Submission
All documents must be uploaded via the online portal. No physical mail or email submissions are required.

Can I apply for Fall 2026 admission if I am still in high school? Yes. Applicants for the Fall 2026 intake must have graduated or will graduate by August 31, 2026. You can apply while your graduation is still pending, as long as you complete high school by the required date.
Are applicants of Korean origin eligible to apply as international students? Applicants of Korean origin can apply but must meet additional requirements: Neither parent is a Korean citizen, OR You completed your entire elementary, junior high, and high school education outside Korea (international schools inside Korea do not count). You must also submit: Certificate of Entry & Exit (issued by Korean Immigration Office) Proof of loss of Korean nationality Both documents must be recently issued.
Can I modify my KAIST application after paying the application fee? Yes. Applicants can still edit or update their application at any time within the application period, even after paying the USD 80 non-refundable application fee. After payment, your recommenders will automatically receive email instructions to submit recommendations.
