To qualify for the National Ocean Scholar Program, applicants must meet the following:

Must have participated in the National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) at least once during high school
Must have a career interest in ocean sciences or marine-related fields
Must demonstrate strong academic performance and integrity
Must submit all required academic and supporting documents
Must be pursuing post-high school education at an accredited institution

Application Procedure

Applicants must complete the scholarship application and submit the following materials via email (PDF format recommended):

1. Official Transcript
Must include GPA
If the GPA is not on a 4.0 scale, a signed conversion from a counselor or principal is required
2. SAT or ACT Score Sheet
Official score report from either standardized test
3. Two Recommendation Letters
One must be from an academic source such as a teacher or coach
Letters should address academic abilities, character, and interest in marine science
4. Two Essays
Applicants must write essays on assigned ocean-related topics
Essays should demonstrate passion for marine sciences, analytical skills, and commitment to ocean stewardship
5. Proof of Admission (if available)
Admission letter or enrollment confirmation from the college or university
6. Submit Application by Email
Documents must be emailed following instructions provided by the Consortium for Ocean Leadership.
