Health Insurance : Fellows are responsible for securing their own health insurance

Travel Costs : The fellowship includes funding for travel and relocation expenses

Applicants must be non-PhD holders as of 9 May 2023 , with a completed PhD at a UK or Irish university
The research must be an Italianist topic with a clear potential for publication
The applicant must be willing to be hosted by a UK or Irish institution and follow visa and residency conditions

Key Expectations

The fellow must be present at their host institution during the fellowship period (subject to visa and residency conditions)
Non-stipendiary visiting status is required for the fellowship, allowing email, IT , and library access
Mentoring and integration into the host department’s academic life will be part of the fellowship, with a detailed support statement from the host department
The PhD viva must be completed (with any corrections signed off) no earlier than 9 May 2023

Application Procedure

To apply for the SIS Postdoctoral Fellowship , applicants must:

Submit a Project Description : A 1,000-word description outlining the book project, its contribution to Italian Studies, and publication plans
Host Support Statement : A 500-word statement from the head of the proposed host department explaining how the fellowship candidate will be mentored and integrated into the department
CV : A two-page CV highlighting academic achievements
References : The names of two referees

Deadline And Notification

Application Deadline : Friday, 9 May 2025 , at 12 noon
Outcome Notification : The successful candidate will be notified by Friday, 6 June 2025
Fellowship Start Date : The fellowship will commence in September or October 2025
