Eligibility

To apply for the AKS Hanmun Fellowship 2026, applicants must:

Be an undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral student majoring in Korean Studies at an overseas university.
Demonstrate advanced Korean language proficiency, as all lectures are conducted in Korean.
For Advanced Course applicants, completion of a basic Hanmun (Hanja/Chinese Character) course is required.
Be non-Korean nationals and not graduates of the same level of study.

Available Subjects

Participants can join one of the following:

Basic Course (13th Cohort): March 3 – June 19, 2026
Advanced Course (14th Cohort): September 1 – December 18, 2026

Lectures include:

Basic Course: Gyemongpyeon (The Book of Teaching Children), Mencius, Samguksagi (Chronicles of the Three States), Collected Commentaries of Elementary Learning, etc.
Advanced Course: Analects of Confucius, Mencius, Samguk Yusa (Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms), and Prose Reading, among others.

Round-trip airfare (economy class; reimbursement based on actual cost and budget guidelines)
Free accommodation at the AKS Guesthouse
Living allowance of KRW 750,000 per month

Note: Living support will not be provided to participants receiving funding from other sources.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the AKS Hanmun Fellowship 2026, applicants must:

Be an undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral student majoring in Korean Studies at an overseas university.
Demonstrate advanced Korean language proficiency, as all lectures are conducted in Korean.
For Advanced Course applicants, completion of a basic Hanmun (Hanja/Chinese Character) course is required.
Be non-Korean nationals and not graduates of the same level of study.

Application Period

September 15, 2025 (10:00 KST) – October 17, 2025 (17:00 KST)

How To Apply

Visit the Academy of Korean Studies website to complete the online application form.
Prepare and upload all required documents (see below).
Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for a video interview between November 4–6, 2025.
Final results will be announced on November 12, 2025, via email.

Required Documents

Completed application form (available on AKS website)
Certificate of enrollment (or completion)
Letter of reference from academic advisor (explaining the applicant’s need to study Hanmun)
TOPIK score report (if available)

For Advanced Course applicants:

Transcript or certificate proving completion of a Hanmun course, or
AKS Hanmun Fellowship Certificate of Completion
Documents must be in Korean or English; otherwise, include a notarized translation.
