Advanced graduate students (PhD candidates ABD – “all but dissertation”) and postdoctoral scholars.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

Scholars and advanced graduate students focusing on Turkey-related research in the humanities or social sciences. Graduate student applicants must have completed all doctoral requirements except the dissertation by June 2026. Non-U.S. applicants must be affiliated with a recognized educational institution in the U.S. or Canada. Applicants must be able to obtain appropriate research permits and visas from Turkish authorities.

Application Procedure

Prepare your application: Download and complete the ARIT application form. Submit documents: Send completed application and supporting documents via email to aritoffice@gmail.com . Letters of recommendation: Ensure three references are submitted directly by referees. Graduate student applicants: Provide a copy of your graduate transcript. Deadline: Submit all materials by November 1, 2025. Selection process: The ARIT Committee on Fellowships reviews applications, with notifications expected by late January 2026.
Research Permission Requirement
Successful applicants are responsible for obtaining research permits and visas from relevant Turkish authorities. For projects under three months, a tourist visa may be acceptable, while longer research stays require a research visa and permits from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
