Eligibility

To be considered for the Cowrie Foundation Scholarship at the University of Aberdeen, you must:

Ethnicity : Identify as belonging to one of the following ethnic groups:

Black or Black British – Caribbean

Black or Black British – African

Mixed – White and Black Caribbean

Mixed – White and Black African

Other Black background

Offer Acceptance : Have firmly accepted an offer for a first undergraduate full-time degree at the University of Aberdeen for the 2025/26 academic year (via UCAS deadlines)

Residency and Fee Status :

Be assessed as a ‘home’ or ‘rest of UK’ student for tuition fees

Household Income :

Have a total household income of £25,000 or less per year

Student Finance Confirmation :

Apply for full income-assessed government financial support through your regional funding body (e.g., Student Finance England, SAAS, Student Finance Wales, or Northern Ireland)

Consent to share your financial information with the University of Aberdeen

The Cowrie Scholarship Foundation (CSF) is committed to increasing access to higher education for Black British students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds . In collaboration with UK universities, including the University of Aberdeen, the Foundation aims to fund over 100 students in the next decade.

For the 2025/26 academic year, the University of Aberdeen will award two full scholarships under this program.

Scholarship Benefits

This highly prestigious scholarship covers the entire cost of your undergraduate education at the University of Aberdeen:

Full tuition fees for the duration of your degree

Maintenance stipend of up to £8,000 per year to support living expenses

Support for three or more years (based on your program length), subject to satisfactory academic progress

This financial support is designed to remove economic barriers, empowering students to fully engage in their studies, campus life, and future career development.
