Eligibility
To apply, candidates must meet the following key eligibility requirements: Nationality: Applicants must be citizens of a Commonwealth developing country such as Pakistan, India, Nigeria, Bangladesh, and Ghana, among others. Financial Need: Applicants should demonstrate that they cannot afford to study in the UK. Study Location: You must not be living or studying in a developed country at the time of application. Commitment to Return: Scholars are expected to return to their home country upon completion of their studies, to use their newly acquired skills to contribute to national development.

The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship supports students pursuing postgraduate taught master’s degrees in fields critical to global development. At the University of Birmingham, eligible programmes include: MA Africa and Development MSc Development Policy and Politics MSc Conflict, Security and Development MSc Clinical Oncology MSc Environment, Development and Politics These courses offer a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, empowering scholars to contribute meaningfully to their home countries after graduation.

What Does the Scholarship Cover? The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship provides comprehensive financial support, including: Full tuition fees for the duration of the programme. A maintenance stipend to cover living expenses. Airfare to and from the UK. Coverage of the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS). A one-off arrival allowance. Support for thesis expenses. A study travel grant to cover additional academic costs.
