Overview

The Banister Fletcher Fellowship is a joint initiative between the University of London’s Institute in Paris (ULIP) and its partners in the UK. It supports a dynamic programme of workshops, public lectures, roundtables, and urban policy trainings that address critical themes in urban design, spatial justice, architecture, cultural heritage, and knowledge production.

Fellows will actively contribute to a long-term archive of events via video, audio, and publications, helping shape future directions in global urban studies.

The Banister Fletcher Fellowship is a joint initiative between the University of London’s Institute in Paris (ULIP) and its partners in the UK. It supports a dynamic programme of workshops, public lectures, roundtables, and urban policy trainings that address critical themes in urban design, spatial justice, architecture, cultural heritage, and knowledge production.

Fellows will actively contribute to a long-term archive of events via video, audio, and publications, helping shape future directions in global urban studies.

Eligibility

To apply for the 2026 Banister Fletcher Global Fellowship, applicants must:

Hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline OR demonstrate significant impact through creative or professional practice.
Present a strong research or creative track record in urban studies, architecture, urban history, or urban theory.
Submit a proposal outlining potential workshops, events, and knowledge-sharing initiatives focused on urban environments in Paris and/or London.
Demonstrate how the project aligns with the goals of the Fellowship, including long-term contributions to global urban research.
Be salaried or non-salaried (open to freelance researchers, postdocs, and independent scholars).
We especially encourage applications from underrepresented or minority backgrounds.
