Eligibility
The University of Otago offers only eight International Master's Research Scholarships each year, with two awarded in each teaching division. Due to this limited number, the selection process is highly competitive.
To have the best chance of winning this scholarship, we recommend applying only if your grades in the later years of your undergraduate degree are consistently high, ideally at A or A+ level.
The University of Otago requires international students to demonstrate English language proficiency for admission to Master's programs.

This scholarship is specifically designed for the thesis portion of a Master's Research degree . It covers your tuition fees for up to one year of full-time enrollment at the domestic student rate.
This scholarship is a partial tuition waiver, not a full scholarship.
International students pay higher tuition fees than domestic students.
The scholarship will only cover the difference between the domestic and international rate for your thesis year.
You will be responsible for paying the remaining tuition fees.

Application Procedure
Applications are made online through the eVision portal after applying for admission to a programme. The application form will be available through an alert at one of the following times:
when applying for admission (if the degree is by thesis only, or if the thesis will begin straight away) – you will receive an alert in your eVision portal after applying for admission to your programme, inviting you to apply for a scholarship; or,
just before the thesis component is about to begin (usually at the start of the second year for a master's degree by papers and thesis) – you will receive an alert in your eVision portal after enrolling in your thesis paper.
