Eligibility

To qualify, applicants must:

Be an incoming first-year student seeking a bachelor’s degree.
Be a first-generation university student from a low-income background.
Be within three years of high school graduation at the time of application.
Have graduated from schools in Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, South Asia, or Southeast Asia.
Not eligible: Transfer students, graduate students, current UW–Madison students, or students who already completed a post-secondary degree.

Application Procedure

Key Dates for Fall 2026 Entry
Late August 2025 – King-Morgridge application opens in WiSH
November 15, 2025 – King-Morgridge Scholars Program deadline
February 1, 2026 – General scholarship application deadlines for other awards
March 2026 – KMSP scholarship decisions released
How to Apply?
Apply to UW–Madison as a first-year student through Early Action.
Submit all required application materials by the Early Action deadline.
Set up your NetID to access the WiSH portal.
Complete the King-Morgridge Scholars Program application in WiSH, including: Short-answer questions A 500–700 word essay

Submit the KMSP application by November 15, 2025.
Scholarship decisions will be announced by March 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions Faqs

How many students are selected each year for the King-Morgridge Scholars Program? Only six students worldwide are selected annually, making it one of UW–Madison’s most prestigious and competitive scholarships.
Does the King-Morgridge Scholarship cover all expenses? Yes. The scholarship provides full tuition, fees, room and board, health insurance, round-trip airfare, and a stipend for personal expenses, along with mentorship and leadership development opportunities.
Can transfer or graduate students apply for this scholarship? No. The scholarship is only open to first-year undergraduate applicants. Transfer students, graduate students, and current UW–Madison students are not eligible.
