Eligibility

To apply for the WCADC Visual Arts Scholarship, applicants must meet the following conditions:

Must identify as BIPOC and female

Must be a U.S. citizen

Must currently be: A high school senior enrolled in a public school in DC, Maryland, or Virginia for the last two years, or A college freshman or sophomore originally from the DMV area

A college freshman or sophomore originally from the DMV area

Must be enrolled or planning to enroll as a Visual Arts major

Must not be a member of WCADC or an immediate family member of a WCA member

Must not have previously received the WCADC scholarship

Selected students will receive the following benefits:

Scholarship award of up to $5,000

Funding for tuition, housing, and instructional materials

Opportunity for the top three applicants to showcase work in an art exhibition

Recognition from a respected arts organization supporting women in the arts

Application Procedure

Students must submit an online application before the deadline and upload the required materials.

Reflection statement

Applicants may also request a WCADC mentor for help with portfolio review and application preparation.

Steps to apply:

Complete the online application form.

Prepare your portfolio of original artwork.

Upload your process folio.

Submit your reflection statement.

Optionally request a mentor review.

Submit the complete application by April 30 at 11:59 PM.

Selection Criteria

Applications will be reviewed by a panel of at least three professional judges.

Evaluation is based on:

Original artwork – 50%

Process folio and written statements – 50%

Important conditions:

All work must be original and created individually

Collaborative work is not accepted

Artwork must not copy master artworks or comic art

Judges’ decisions are final
